[[Hermie's Great Adventure!]]

After scuddling along for a while, Hermie finally reaches the highway. It is the middle of the summer, and the black tar of it looks super warm. There are cars zooming by, but on the other side of the wide road, just a bit further than the guardrail, is another forest! What should Hermie do?

Help him decide. Should he:
Continue forward and [[cross the highway]]?
[[Turn back]] and go a different direction??

After wondering forever, Hermie finally reaches the river. He decides to stop and take a rest, but can't find a proper place to do it. He spots a little hut that must have been built by an animal of some sort. It is near the rivers edge.

Should Hermie:
[[Go knock]] and ask the owner of the hut if he can rest there for a bit?
[[Just stay]] where he is and rest before crossing the river?
Just [[leave altogether]] and go back to pick a different direction?

Hermie works his way, very slowly, down to the field with the dirt road. He pauses and looks around, thinking that he is alone, but then he spots something--or rather, someone. There is a rabbit sitting at the end of the road, very close to where Hermie is now resting.

The rabbit hops up to Hermie with a mischevious smile on his face.

"Hi! My name is Harold. Are you here searching for a home, too?" the rabbit asks Hermie, to which Hermie replies that he is, indeed.

[[>>>>>>]]

Hermie has made the slow, uneventful trip west, where he had first spotted the evenly spaced, cottage-like houses, but what now? There are three driveways, each leading to one of the houses in the row.

The first house is grey, and has random junk in the yard. There is a large, camoflauge truck parked outside, and a 'Beware of Dog' sign on the slightly ajar, metal fence door.

The second house is white with blue shudders, and the yard looks to be very nicely kept. There is a Prius parked outside.

The third house is light blue, and there are little windmills and yard ornaments dotting the front yard. There is a pink bicycle leaning against the front porch, and a minivan parked next to the house.

Which house should Hermie go to? Help him decide. Should he go to:
The [[first]] house?
The [[second]] house?
The [[third]] house?
Or should he just [[turn around]], and go a different direction?

SPLAT!

Oh, no! Hermie got hit by a Prius.

<img

The End

The highway is just too dangerous for Hermie. He waddles back to where he started his journey. Help him decide where to go next.

Should he go:
[[South]], towards the river?
[[East]], towards a big field, cut down the middle by a curvy dirt road?
[[West]], where he can see a cute little row of houses in the distance?

Hermie slowly makes his way to the first house, and nudges through the ajar, metal fence gate. He looks around, not impressed by his surroundings. In fact, they even scare him a bit.

Not two seconds after his arrival, Hermie hears the sound of barking! A big, black and white dog rounds the corner of the house and comes barreling straight for him!

Quick! Should he:
[[Stay frozen]] in terror?
[[Hurry back through the gate]], use his shell to nudge it shut behind him, and pick a different house?

Hermie slowly approaches the nicely kept white house with blue shutters. For some reason, he gets a very bad feeling when he looks at the Prius sitting in the driveway, so he makes a point to avoid it like the plague.

The front door of the house opens, and a little boy with orange hair comes barreling down the front porch stairs. He seems very happy to be outside, and does a little dance around the yard--until he trips over Hermie!

What should Hermie do?

Help him decide. Should he:
[[Get away]] from the little boy and his house as fast as possible, and go to another house?
[[Get away from the row of houses]] altogether, and go back to where he started?
Stay and [[make sure the little boy is okay]]?

Hermie decides to go to the third house. He wanders past yard ornaments, both bigger and smaller than he is, and looks at the blue house in awe. It seems like such a nice place--Oh, no!

Before Hermie knows what is happening, it is like he is flying! He looks down and sees two human hands holding him, and he is very confused. How had he missed a human in the yard when he had entered it?

The human brings him into the light blue house, and they pass a mirror in the entryway. Hermie sees that he is being held by a young, excited looking blonde girl. She doesn't look like the type to cook him up for dinner, but Hermie remaines suspicious and slightly afraid.

[[>>>>>>>>>>>>]]

Hermie isn't interested in living in a humans house or yard, and so he turns back the way he came from, going all the way back to where he began his adventure. Where should he go now?

Help Hermie decide. Should he go:
[[North]], towards the highway?
[[South]], towards the river?
[[East]], towards a big field, cut down the middle by a curvy dirt road?

Oh, no! Hermie is frozen with fear! The dog reaches him, a swinging nametag revealing the monster to be 'Champ'. Champ scoops Hermie up in his maws and dashes towards the house. The dog hurries through the doggie door, skids across linoleum floors into a kitchen, and stops in front of a wiry man lounging in a wooden chair at a wooden table.

That house was just too scary for Hermie!

The [[third]] house?
Or should he just [[turn around]], and go a different direction?

Hermie rests on the grass for a bit before wading into the river. He swims across it, and then looks up. There's a new forest filled with trees, right next to the water! It looks like the perfect place for Hermie to build his new home, so he waddles slowly on into the woods, happy as can be.

The End

After thinking long and hard, Hermie tells Talua yes, and they venture outside towards the river. Talua scuttles onto Hermie's shell, and Hermie slowly wades into the river. He begins to swim, humming as he moves along. Talua hums with him, and soon they've created a silly little song.

It's all fun and games until Talua gives in to her overwhelming urge to be a stingy scorpion, and Hermie shoots straight up out of the water with a loud "YEEEEOOWZA!" He falls back into the water but by then he can't move, and Talua has already sunk below the surface.

Hermie's last thought to himself is that he should've just rested in the grass.

The End

Talua says she understands and bids Hermie farewell. He leaves her hut and feels kind of bad, but he didn't know if he could trust her not to sting him, so he thinks he made the right decision.

Hermie slowly wades into the river and swims across it, and then he looks up. There's a new forest filled with trees, right next to the water! It looks like the perfect place for Hermie to build his new home, so he waddles slowly on into the woods, happy as can be.

Talua is so happy with this proposition that she forgets her own question about crossing the river! She immediately begins planning additions to the house to give Hermie his own room and maybe even a turtlecave where he can do crafts and decorate his shell!

"Oh, there's so much to do, so much fun to be had!" Talua sings happily.

And they, the turtle and the scorpion, live happily ever after, as friends . . .

Hermie decides that the water looks a little to rough and fast-moving, and doesn't want to risk crossing it. He wonders back to where he started his journey. Where should he go now?

Help Hermie choose. Should he go:
[[North]], towards the highway?
[[East]], towards a big field, cut down the middle by a curvy dirt road?
[[West]], where he can see a cute little row of houses in the distance?

Hermie feels that there is no way for him to beat Harold, as rabbits can hop lickity-split, and turtles are so slow, so he declines the race and goes back to where he began his search. Where should he go next?

Help Hermie decide. Should he go:
[[North]], towards the highway?
[[South]], towards the river?
[[West]], where he can see a cute little row of houses in the distance?

After putting in a valiant effort, Hermie admits defeat and turns around. He goes back to where he started his adventure. Where should he go now?

Hermie decides not to give up. It takes awhile before he sees Harold the rabbit again, but when he does, Hermie laughs quietly to himself. Harrold must have been so sure that he would win the race that he decided he could take a nap and still get to this special place first. As Hermie passes the sleeping rabbit, he can hear snoring.

This, of course, gives Hermie a little confidence and the thought that maybe he can win this race after all. He keeps pushing forward, slowly but surely, all the while wondering when Harold will wake up and realize that Hermie has long since passed his resting spot.

The little boy spooks Hermie so much that he decides to leave before the little boy can get back up on his feet. Which house should Hermie visit now?

The [[first]] house?
The [[third]] house?

After attempting to check out this last house, Hermie decides that houses and humans just are not for him, and chooses to go back to where he began his search. Where should he go now?

Hermie decides to be kind, and stay to make sure the little boy is okay. The little boy gets up after a second, though he is covered in grass and dirt. He sees Hermie, picks him up, and smiles.

"Tuwtle! Pet!" the child squeals, and begins making his way back towards the front door of the white house with blue shutters.

Should Hermie:
[[Go with the boy]] into his home?
[[Bite the boy]], so that he will be dropped and can escape?
p {

Hermie decides that he wouldn't mind so much if he were this nice little boys pet, so he does not try to escape the boys hands. Instead, he jus goes along for the ride.

"Mama! I have pet tuwtle!" the boy cries happily as he climbs the stairs, and the front doors swing open to reveal a very mean looking red-headed woman.

"Oh, you're awake!" Erma cries happily, and lifts something out of the tank. She brings it over and sets it in front of Hermie on the carpet.

Hermie is now looking at the most beautiful turtle he has ever laid eyes on, and he can't speak.

The woman snears at Hermie, nestled comfortable within her childs toddler hands, and disappears for a moment. She comes back with a big, dusty broom.

Hermie hits the porch with a thud, and the boy begins to wail. His mother hits Hermie with her broom like its a golfclub and he is a golfball, and Hermie soars so high, so fast, that he reaches outerspace, forced to live out the rest of his days as a space turtle, never to be seen on Earth again.

"Well, I heard that there's a perfect spot to make a home somewhere at the end of this long road, but I don't want to share it. So, if you want that spot, you'll have to race me for it," Harold the rabbit snarkily says to Hermie.

[[Race]] Harold the rabbit to a new home?
[[Go back]] to where he started and try a different direction?

Eventually, Hermie reaches the end of the long, winding dirt road, and there is a cospe of trees jutting out from a large lush forest, looking like a special entrance. Hermie scuttles through this cospe of trees and into a magical place.

<img

There is a small lake with a little waterfall, as well as plenty of grass and even fruit trees for Hermie to munch on. The perfect amount of sunlight fliters through the tall leaves, and there is the peaceful sound of chirping crickets. Hermie looks around and smiles, even as he can hear Harold the rabbit huffily making his way into the trees behind him.

Hermie won the race, and this special place is now his to call home.

Talus doesn't look upset. She just laughs and says, "Of course not, silly! Then we'd both drown!"

Hermie has a decision to make. Should he:
Tell Talua [[yes]], and let her ride on his shell to cross the river?
Tell Talua [[no, I'm sorry]] and cross on his own?

He is already in the girls house now, so there is no point in biting her to get free. He can't open the front door by himself, afterall. The girl bounds up a set of soft-looking stairs and then into a room with a brightly painted, rainbow door. Eventually, the girl sets Hermie down on a very soft, very purple carpet, and introduces herself as Erma.
